Seeing Stars

4 May 2012

We spotted this striking image of Anjelica Huston modeling flares and stars (two of our current style obsessions) on Pinterest, and we had to share it with you.  Photographed by Bob Richardson for Vogue Paris circa 1971, we think this image is equal parts cool and chic.

My So Called Life

16 September 2011

Apparently the 90s are back in fashion, which basically gives us carte blanche to dress like Angela and her angsty friends from My So Called Life whenever we feel like it. We probably shouldn’t be quite so excited about this.

One of us actually owned those purple DMs circa 1995. Who knew we would contemplate wearing them again in 2011.

IT'S A CLASSIC

21 May 2010

THE STYLE

This look defines timeless, chic style: jeans and a white t-shirt.  It’s about personal style rather than fashion, and it always looks effortless, simple and sexy.  The jean should be the Roadtrip – the understated star of any outfit. It’s a style for real denim girls, as it’s got a vintage jeans-y fit.  The right jeans are the heart of this look; if you’re going for simplicity, you have to have the best!  The tee should be in a natural, textured fabric, not too light and drapey, and the MiH Tee Dress fits the bill perfectly.

WHO FOR

Everyone looks amazing in jeans and a white t-shirt. The straight leg and higher rise make the Roadtrip really flattering for taller girls, and it can be worn looser and cuffed for a slim boyfriend fit.

WHAT TO WEAR IT WITH

A little poetic license with the accessories, as our girl captured by Garance Dore is simply wearing some dark nail polish.  In keeping with the spirit of updating timeless pieces, a simple gold chain bracelet from BRVTVS and a beautiful I.D. Bracelet in reclaimed materials from Scosha will look cool and chic.  Continue the trad feel with a gold knot ring (this one’s from BexRox).  As for the shoes, don’t plan on walking too far but these buckle wedges from Surface to Air are a new classic.

PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK

30 April 2010

THE STYLE

We often wonder what would the girls of 1970’s cult classic “Picnic at Hanging Rock” wear today if they hadn’t vanished.  The answer is clearly the London Boy Short – and head to a crowded city park for that picnic instead.

Sling it low on your hips, these shorts were made to draw attention to those pins.   Roll them up even further to combat the heat as you sit on your blanket chatting to friends.

WHO FOR

This look is for the Sunday city girl with a carefree breeze in her hair.  She’s got stories to tell about last night and a BBQ to light.

WHAT TO WEAR IT WITH

A floaty crochet crop from Topshop.  Keep your face sun-damage free with a mega-hat by Melissa Odabash at Net a Porter.  Ksubi boots, Steven Shein bangles and Noemi Klein metal branch / skull earrings complete the look.  Oh, don’t forget your Opening Ceremony x Pendleton blanket – dual purpose for sitting on in the sun and wrapping up after it goes down.
