This season the ongoing collaboration between M.i.h Jeans and Bay Garnett continues to be inspired by 90s West London, when Bay pioneered the use of thrifting in her high fashion shoots. At the heart of the collaboration is a passionate shared belief that the industry must join together to celebrate vintage alongside the new, and reduce the environmental impact of fashion.
The capsule features five limited-edition pieces inspired by rare vintage and second-hand finds in Bay Garnett’s personal archive. Key pieces include The Bay Jean, an adaption of a 70s jean used in Vogue shoots and to style Chloe Sevigny, and the Tiger Sweater, based on a hand-knitted sweater with a Tiger prowling across the front, found at The British Heart Foundation charity shop in Chelsea.
The Cheap Date tee is based on the original 90s run of tees hand-transferred by Bay in New York, modeled by Liv Tyler, and given away with issues of the Cheap Date zine during the 90s.
The London-based stylist is renowned for her eclectic aesthetic. Having co-founded anti-fashion magazine Cheap Date in the 90s, Garnett broke into the industry in 2003 with her first shoot for British Vogue - Kate Moss, photographed by Juergen Teller, in vintage clothing.
"My obsession with vintage began in New York in the late 90s where you could find
the most beautiful things if you were willing to search for them. These pieces were
precious because you had found them and they were one-offs. When I started styling
with second-hand clothes it wasn’t about being deliberately anti-fashion, it was because these clothes had significance, they combed different bits of style and culture and they were individual."

The vintage edit is focused on one-of-a-kind denim pieces from the 70s and deadstock items. Key finds include denim overalls and all-in-ones, silk blouses with embroidered and lurex details, throw-on statement jackets, and Bay’s signature vintage denim shirts.

The vintage pieces sourced in LA were thrifted during a road trip with Bay’s LA-based tribe including actor & writer, Tallulah Willis, musician, Tennessee Thomas and artist, Lea Marcaccini. All obsessed with vintage, the girls hit the Rosebowl flea market in Pasadena, Topanga Canyon, the Valley and Highland Park in search of the thrill of the find.
